Is there a powerful dua that protects you?

Here is the full authentic incident of Āyat al-Kursī and Abu Hurairah as reported in Sahih al-Bukhari:

🌙 The Incident of Āyat al-Kursī and the Thief (Shayṭān)

Narrated by Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed me to guard the zakāt (charity) of Ramadan.

While I was guarding it, someone came and started stealing from the food.

So I caught him and said:

“I will take you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!”

The man said:

“I am poor, I have dependents, and I am in great need.”

So Abu Hurairah felt pity and let him go.

🌅 First Night

In the morning, the Prophet ﷺ asked:

“O Abu Hurairah, what did your prisoner do last night?”

He said:

“O Messenger of Allah, he complained of great need, so I let him go.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Indeed, he told you a lie and he will return.”

🌙 Second Night

Again, the man returned and started stealing.
Abu Hurairah caught him and said:

“I will take you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!”

The man again pleaded poverty, so Abu Hurairah let him go again.

In the morning, the Prophet ﷺ asked again, and after hearing the story, he said:

“Indeed, he told you a lie and he will return.”

🌙 Third Night (The Key Moment)

The man returned again, and Abu Hurairah caught him and said:

“This time I will definitely take you to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!”

The man said:

“Let me teach you some words by which Allah will benefit you.”

Abu Hurairah asked:

“What are they?”

He said:

“When you go to your bed, recite Āyat al-Kursī (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255), and Allah will appoint a guardian over you, and no devil will come near you until morning.”

So Abu Hurairah let him go.

🌅 The Next Morning

The Prophet ﷺ asked again:

“What did your prisoner do last night?”

Abu Hurairah told him what the man said.

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“He told you the truth, although he is a habitual liar.”

Then the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Do you know who you were speaking to for the past three nights?”

Abu Hurairah said:

“No.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“That was Shayṭān (the devil).”
