What does Islam say about Alcohol Gambling and managing the excessive wealth

The Prohibition of Alcohol and gambling, and Spending away the wealth of excess in goodness

"They ask you about intoxicants and gambling. Say: In them is great sin and some benefit for people, but their sin is greater than their benefit. And they ask you what they should spend. Say: 'The excess (beyond your needs).' Thus Allah makes clear to you the verses so that you may reflect."

This is from Qur'an 2:219.

Explanation

Intoxicants (al-khamr): At this stage, the Qur'an taught that although alcohol may have some worldly benefits (such as trade or temporary pleasure), its harm and sin are greater. This was an early step toward the complete prohibition of alcohol, which was finalized later in Qur'an 5:90–91.

Gambling (al-maysir): Likewise, gambling may bring financial gain to some, but its spiritual, social, and economic harms outweigh any benefit.

"What should they spend?" The reply is "al-'afw", often translated as "the excess," "what is beyond your needs," or "the surplus." It encourages believers to spend from what remains after meeting their own and their dependents' reasonable needs, giving in charity and doing good.

So, Qur'an 2:219 addresses all three topics:

Intoxicants (alcohol),

Gambling,

Spending from one's surplus wealth in charity.
