Are monkeys the Progenitor of humans

When Allah, the Most High, said:

“And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, ‘Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority (khalīfah).’ They said, ‘Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?’ Allah said, ‘Indeed, I know that which you do not know.’”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:30)

The angels did not speak out, but from what they knew of creation before mankind—creatures driven by instinct, dominance, and conflict. They only understood beings that spread فساد (corruption) and shed blood, like animals that fight for territory, power, and survival.

They did not yet know of a creation that would know Allah, fear Him, hope in Him, and live for a purpose beyond mere survival.

A creation that would believe in the unseen, in resurrection, and in accountability.

This is why Allah describes the disbelievers who reduce life to nothing but worldly existence:

“And they say, ‘There is not but our worldly life; we die and live, and nothing destroys us except time.’ And they have of that no knowledge; they are only assuming.”
(Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:24)

Such people live like animals—without recognizing their Lord, without purpose, without accountability.

But Allah is Just, and He will establish perfect justice—even between animals.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“The rights will surely be given to those who are entitled to them on the Day of Resurrection, until the hornless sheep will take retribution from the horned sheep.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 2582)

So when the angels mentioned bloodshed and corruption, they were referring to a creation that lives without divine guidance.

But Allah responded:

“Indeed, I know that which you do not know.” (2:30)

The Honor of Adam Through Knowledge

Allah then manifested the true status of Adam:

“And He taught Adam the names—all of them. Then He showed them to the angels and said, ‘Inform Me of the names of these, if you are truthful.’”
(2:31)

“They said, ‘Exalted are You; we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Indeed, it is You who is the Knowing, the Wise.’”
(2:32)

“He said, ‘O Adam, inform them of their names.’ And when he had informed them of their names, He said, ‘Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens and the earth? And I know what you reveal and what you have concealed.’”
(2:33)

This knowledge is not just names—it is the ability to understand, to reason, and above all, to recognize Allah, His Names and Attributes, His Paradise, His Hell, and the Day of Judgment.

Created from Dust — Yet Honored Above Creation

Even though Adam was created from the same origin as earthly creatures:

“Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created him from dust; then He said to him, ‘Be,’ and he was.”
(Surah Aal ‘Imran 3:59)

Allah still honored mankind above many of His creations:

“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam and carried them on the land and sea and provided for them of the good things and preferred them over much of what We have created, with [definite] preference.”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:70)

And:

“We have certainly created man in the best of stature.”
(Surah At-Tin 95:4)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Allah created Adam in His image…”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 2612)

And he ﷺ said:

“If one of you fights, let him avoid the face.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2559, Muslim 2612)

One Origin, One Humanity

Allah made all of mankind from a single origin:

“O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women…”
(Surah An-Nisa 4:1)

And He removed all false superiority:

“O mankind, indeed We created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.”
(Surah Al-Hujurat 49:13)

The Purpose of Our Existence

Allah made our purpose clear:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
(Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56)

He gave us intellect and hearts:

“They have hearts with which they do not understand, they have eyes with which they do not see, and they have ears with which they do not hear. Those are like cattle—rather, they are more astray…”
(Surah Al-A‘raf 7:179)

The Gift of Revelation, Speech, and Knowledge

Allah honored mankind with revelation and communication:

“The Most Merciful – Taught the Qur’an – Created man – Taught him eloquence (speech).”
(Surah Ar-Rahman 55:1–4)

He said about Yaḥyā:

“[Allah said], ‘O Yaḥyā, take the Scripture with determination.’ And We gave him judgment while yet a boy.”
(Surah Maryam 19:12)

And about ‘Īsā:

“…and He will teach him the Book and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel.”
(Surah Aal ‘Imran 3:48)

Laws That Distinguish Us from Animals

Allah did not leave mankind like animals—He gave laws:

“And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:32)

“And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden, except by right…”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:33)

“And there is for you in legal retribution (qiṣāṣ) life, O you of understanding, that you may become righteous.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:179)

“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment…”
(Surah Al-Isra 17:23)

And belief itself is defined clearly:

“The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers…”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:285)

The Enemy of Mankind

Despite all this honor, there are those who reject Allah and follow Shayṭān—the one who was arrogant toward Adam:

“And [mention] when We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate to Adam’; so they prostrated, except for Iblis. He refused and was arrogant and became of the disbelievers.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:34)

He envied Adam and vowed to misguide mankind.

The Final Honor — Garments and Taqwa

Allah completed His favor upon mankind:

“O children of Adam, We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness (taqwā) – that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.”
(Surah Al-A‘raf 7:26)

Conclusion

Man is not a beast of instinct.
He is not created for mere survival, dominance, or desire.

He is a creation:

  • honored with knowledge
  • guided by revelation
  • given intellect and speech
  • bound by moral law
  • tested in this life
  • and destined for accountability

Whoever recognizes this rises above all creation.
And whoever abandons it falls lower than animals.

“They are like cattle—rather, they are even more astray.” (7:179)
